Measure fourteen times, cut three times, trim, trim, trim, scream in disgust, start over. Making new front rack inserts from old 3-ring binder dividers. My days of eyeballing it are over: I want it perfect, and perfect starts with good ole' paper and pencil. My drafting instructors would have been so proud. Baby steps toward frame building. #dudefab

191st Street near Switzer; the last deep blues and a hint of sunset on the last leg back to Olathe. Nice, quiet roads, light wind, and railroad calls in the west. This January weather is terrific!

Will the real classic MTB please stand up! Spotted, and wanted badly. All of my ideal bikes were made decades ago. Before the revelation of Surly's LHT, before anyone needed suspension, there was Bridgestone. The only thing wrong with such a perfect DK bike? It'd almost be a shame to get it dirty! Gorgeous.

Frowny face, 400 feet? Unique signage near Amsterdam, MO. caught on a recent scouting ride. Fingers crossed this route gets approved!

I usually get a few extra hits on this post right about this time of year, so why not pass it on? If cold weather cycling is on your mind, here's my take: ( http://goo.gl/NUrZF5 ) There's a saying in cycling, "there are no bad days, just bad equipment". Hear, hear. At least in KC, the cold air has arrived. Let's suit up!

Presenting the "Thomson Elite" rando wallet. Once again, couldn't find what I wanted anywhere, so I made my own. It's a simple bi-fold card and bill holder, with a loose change pocket, too: hard to find these days. Made from a Thomson Elite seatpost bag... Sort of a thin, high denier nylon - sturdy. The best part, finally finding a good use for those seatpost bags! Already planning on making a few more from another Thomson bag, and a few shoe bags, too. Stitching is sloppy, yeah... That's why I call this one a prototype. He, he. Minimalist, tough wallet to carry just enough for that all-day bike ride.

The old high school at Parker, KS., which - sadly - it looks like it's being prepped for demolition. Would make a great regional museum or community center. I've contacted the city and the local historical society for the scoop. For now, a great and historic treasure on the highways of Kansas. In an era of constant change, this building has been here for 93 years! More at http://ift.tt/145uMNY
